When I went:
June 2016, Media dinner

Let’s be real here – everyone and their mother loves bacon. If you have tried it, and HATE it, there is clearly something a little off with your taste buds (kidding!), no but really…how can you not love it?! Crispy, slightly soft, baked, crumbled in your dish, or simply served with “brown sauce” on toast – there are a million ways to love and enjoy bacon in your life!

Rashers has been a long-time playa on the east end, cooking up delicious and affordable bacon sandwiches for Toronto dwellers. Their slogan is “Makers of Quality Bacon Sandwiches” and this definitely holds true. They emphasize that bacon is not a trend, but a staple. No frills – just bacon in its truest, purest form being highlighted in 12 different ways. Below are pictures of their new space – I love the Toronto mural!

I had the pleasure of attending a Media Dinner at their new Ossington location and sampled a number of tasty bacon sammies. Here is what I ate:

Hogtown – Peameal bacon on a bun with homemade ale mustard with a fried egg

Hogtown

This one was TOP NOTCH. The peameal was perfectly accentuated by the grainy mustard and ooey gooey egg yolk.

Bacon Butty – British style bacon on white bread with homemade brown sauce

Bacon Butty

This sandwich was my favourite! The British style bacon was super tender and had that melt-in-your-mouth texture. Their brown sauce is similar to HP sauce, and is made with 24 different ingredients! This is a must, must, must try!

Brie & Bacon – smoked strip bacon with brie and caramelized onions, topped with a homemade garlic aioli on a warm bun

Brie & Bacon

2 B’s in a pod – flavours that are just meant to be 🙂

Apple & Maple Grilled Cheese – Maple glazed smoked strip bacon with cheddar and apple chutney on white bread

Apple & Maple Grilled Cheese

I’m a big fan of savory and sweet and this definitely hit the spot. The sweetness of the apple complimented the bacon perfectly. Who needs dessert when you have this?!

Bacon Caesar – smoked strip bacon, fresh romaine lettuce with homemade Caesar dressing & grated parmesan cheese on a warm ciabatta

Bacon Caesar

Everyone loves Caesar salad. Everyone loves Caesar salad MORE with bacon and bread.

Bacon Burger – Ground beef & bacon patty with smoked strip bacon – lettuce tomato & homemade chipotle mayo on a toasted bun

Bacon Burger

This fella was a mouthful – a classic take on the classic burger, but built in yumminess right into the patty.

We also had the hand-cut wedges with chipotle mayo and curly fries to accompany our meal. Tates and bacon – you simply can’t go wrong!

As a downtown Toronto gal, I’m always looking for quick, affordable eats that I can rely on when I don’t feel like cooking (which is VERY often.) I am happy to add Rashers to that roster! If you’re in the hood or have a hankering for a good ol’ bacon sandwich, this is your place. Kudos for also encouraging substitutions!
